Manager/Personal Trainer/Yoga Instructor

Growing up in a family of passionate runners and sports enthusiasts, I learned early on that exercise was an essential part of physical, mental, and emotional health. While pursuing Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education at the University of Florida (Go Gators!), I continued to keep wellness a priority in my life by running, strength training, and taking
nutrition classes.

After teaching for several years, I took time off to stay home with my three children. Daily workouts kept me centered, particularly during difficult times. I learned that taking care of myself with exercise was crucial to being a good parent. When my children started school, I decided to merge my passion for education with my belief that a healthy lifestyle can change
lives. I became an ACE certified personal trainer in 2008.

Several years later, when facing a diagnosis of PTSD, I again turned turned to fitness to find relief from anxiety and trauma. I began practicing and studying yoga. The benefits I experienced led me to enroll in the Community Power Yoga teacher training to become a certified yoga instructor.

Eventually, I started a yoga and meditation class for veterans suffering from PTSD at a transitional housing shelter in Durham, and I teach classes at Community Power Yoga, also in Durham. I am so very excited to start as manager of Beyond Barriers in addition to working one-on-one with clients as a personal trainer and teaching Total Body Conditioning!
