Move with Ease as You Age
"I'm too old for this" is a comment I hear too often. There's this idea that as you get older you can't move like you used to. I feel the same way every morning when I get out of bed. My muscles feel stiff and it takes me a while to get loosened up. Unfortunately, most people believe that because they feel this way, it is a downward spiral from here. However, age is just a number. There is chronological age and their is phsiological age. That old saying "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" is hardly true when it comes to aging. It is never too late to change your biological age. The best way to get started is through movement. Doing programs that focus on balance and functional patterns. That is, performing exercises in a way your body naturally moves, will make you stronger and moving with ease. You can get stronger using a machine at the gym, but you won't get better at movement. If you want to move better and feel younger, try to incorporate exercises into your program that simulate natural movements like pushing, pulling, lunging, squatting, bending, and twisting.
